How is Operator Access Maintained?
No one is able to enter the ViewPoint Logistics menu system until they are granted explicit access by the VL System Administrator, SYSADM. All access is maintained by providing users with passworded operator codes that are assigned to operator groups.
- The SYSADM operator code is hard-coded in ViewPoint Logistics with site administrative/security privileges as well as complete access to all menu items (companies, systems, sub-systems, jobs, HighViews, and Action Grids).
- All other operators are then created and maintained via the SYSADM.
- Operator groups define levels of access (to selected systems and menu items).
- Each operator must then be assigned to one group, and can only access the menu items defined for that group.
- A group must exist in the system before an operator can be assigned to it.
- Passwords may be changed by individual operators once they log into ViewPoint Logistics.
About Operators and Groups
ViewPoint Logistics is installed with a few predefined operators and group codes. All other operators and groups may be created, changed, and deleted by the SYSADM. Access levels for the different types of operators and groups are described below:
SYSADM Operator
Predefined in VL. The ViewPoint Logistics system administrator, SYSADM, has the highest level of access outside of MAVES. Most system maintenance will be carried out via the SYSADM operator. This account is hard-coded into ViewPoint Logistics at the time of installation.
When logged in as the SYSADM operator, the user will have access to System Administration and Security (SAS) as well as to every company, system, sub-system and job available for use in ViewPoint Logistics.
The SYSADM operator account is responsible for adding/removing operators and groups for their site. This is performed by selecting the Z0 company, and opening the Operator Security Profiles HighView.
Operator Groups
Groups define menu access for one or more VL operators. All operators must belong to a group. Group codes start with a prefix of "GRP" and are followed by a three digit number.
Group codes GRP000 and GRP999 are predefined by the system. All other group codes GRP001 to GRP998 are created by the SYSADM operator using the Operator Groups action grid in the VL Security HighView; for example,
GRP000 - Management
GRP001 - Financials
GRP002 - Client Service Representatives
GRP003 - Warehouse 1 and 2 only
etc.
For complete instructions, see Creating/Modifying Operator Groups.
Group GRP000 (Full Access)
Predefined in VL. Operators assigned to GRP000 will have full access to all companies and menu items in ViewPoint Logistics. This level of access is usually reserved for a select few "super users" (management-level users) at a site.
Group GRP999 (No Access)
Predefined in VL. Operators assigned to GRP999 will have no access to any companies or menu items. This level of access may be used by the SYSADM as the starting point when creating a new operator profile or to instantly "turn off" access privileges for one or more operators.
It is also the default group for legacy operator codes when migrating sites to ViewPoint Logistics from an earlier MAVES product. Later, these operators need to be re-assigned to the appropriate new group by SYSADM. For more information, see Upgrade Process - Reassigning Operators.
Operator-Specific Groups
Operator-specific group codes are assigned to one operator only. They do not follow the GRP naming convention but are given a group code that is identical to the operator code; i.e., "JOHDOE" the operator belongs to "JOHDOE" the group.
This type of group code is created via the feature in the
action grid. Single-user groups will show up in the list of available group codes; however, ViewPoint Logistics prevents any other operator codes from being assigned to that group.
This code is usually assigned to operators that have a unique set of responsibilities that might not be shared by any other users.
Standard VL Operators
Each user at your site will be assigned an operator code by the SYSADM operator. Operator profiles are created and maintained using the action grid in the VL Security HighView. Operator profiles that are set up in ViewPoint Logistics will also be valid for accessing the VL Core Application Platform (e-Z Ware) directly. However, RF operators must be set up directly in RF91.
The operator code may contain any six alphanumeric characters, but typically follows the convention of using the first three letters of the user's first name followed by the first three letters of their last name; e.g., user John Doe would be "JOHDOE". When a site upgrades from a Maves' legacy product, ViewPoint Logistics retains any existing operator codes along with their current passwords.
New operator codes must be assigned to a group at the time they are created. This defines their initial responsibilities and access level; i.e., GRP999 (no access) can be used if you are unsure which group to choose, or are planning to create a new group later. The feature allows you to re-assign one or more operators to a different group code.
For complete instructions, see Creating/Modifying Operators.
MyLogistics Accounts
The SYSADM is also responsible for setting up MyLogistics client/trading partner accounts. Client group codes start with a prefix of "XG" (external group). Client operator codes start with the prefix "XO" (external operator). Client accounts are limited to a subset of the menu items and data that would be available to the 3PL operator. External operator groups and operator codes can also be defined by the client/trading partner's MyLogistics Administrator. For more information, see MyLogistics Account Administration.
Note: Currently, RF operators must be set up directly in RF91. For more information, refer to the Radio Frequency Set Ups workflow.
Creating Operators and Assigning Menu Access
The SYSADM operator will have access to the Operator Security Profiles HighView to assist with the process of setting up companies, systems, sub-systems, jobs, HighViews, and Action Grids for everyone at their site.

This HighView allows you to create or remove operators and groups in ViewPoint Logistics. Setting up ViewPoint Logistics menu access involves the following tools and procedures:
Creating Operator Groups
Each operator group defines a selection of menus for accessing specific companies, systems, sub-systems, and jobs. Use the action grid to create the operator group code and to define menu access. For complete instructions, see Creating/Modifying Operator Groups.
Creating Operators
Each operator is given a distinct operator code and password and must be assigned to an operator group. Use the action grid to create operator profiles and to assign operators to groups. For complete instructions, see Creating/Modifying Operators. Note: Sites who are migrating from an earlier Maves product must re-assign their existing operators to new groups before they can access any menus or data. See Upgrade Process - Re-Assigning Operators.
Assigning System and Menu Items
Each operator group is associated with one or more companies. For each company, a group may be assigned access to specific systems, sub-systems, and jobs (menu items). Use the
and
features in the
and
action grids to grant access to specific companies, systems, sub-systems and jobs. For complete instructions, see Assigning Company/System Access and Assigning Menu Items.
Use the action grid to see a complete list of the operator groups that have unassigned menu items. It also provides the means to grant access to the available menu items. For complete instructions, see Unassigned Menu Items.
