Logging into a ViewPoint Logistics session begins with the Menu Page . Unless your operator profile has restricted access, the Menu Page will serve as the primary launch point for performing all of your work and it must remain open in your browser throughout your VL session; i.e., closing this browser tab will close your session. From this location in the VL workspace, you will be able to launch all permitted operations and data by clicking menu items listed in the Navigation Pane or by clicking the adjacent menu icons in the Display Pane.

Note: Versions of ViewPoint Logistics that were installed prior to 2013 may not include some of the options described on this page. See Legacy VL.

For navigation purposes, the Menu Page remains open as the left-most tab on your browser. Selecting a HighView from the Menu Page will launch a new tab (within the browser). Selecting a Job from the Menu Page will launch a new window (outside the browser). Closing the Menu Page tab will terminate your ViewPoint Logistics session.

The key components of the Menu Page are outlined below.

Company Selector

If your VL installation is set up to manage multiple companies, you can use the Company Selector to identify a specific company in which to perform your work.

Note that System, Sub-System, HighView, and Job menu options will reflect only what is available for the company selected.

Job Code Field

Every Job in your ViewPoint Logistics environment is identified by six-character Job Code that has the format CCSSJJ, where:

CC = Company
SS = Sub-System
JJ = Job

You can use the Job Code field to jump directly into a Job from any company, from any menu in the interface provided your log-in has the necessary permission. Enter the six-character code or click

(browse) to select from a list of existing codes and their descriptions.

Screen Shot Instructions
Using the Job Code Field and Browse

Note: For HighViews, the Job Code Field is designed to accept only those job codes (and action commands) that relate to the kinds of records (orders, receipts, probills, manifests, etc.) that are loaded into the current action grid.

Navigation Pane

The Navigation Pane on the Menu Page provides instant access to all ViewPoint Logistics Systems and Sub-Systems as well as user-defined menus within a Tree View hierarchy. Menu items listed under the accordion tabs expand to display the next level in the hierarchy. Selecting the last items listed in the expanded Tree View will invoke specific functionality, where each HighView opens in a new browser tab, and each Job opens in a new window. For more information, refer to the topics: Using the Navigation Pane, MyFavorites, and OneClicks

Display Pane

The Display Pane is used primarily to show the results of menu items selected in the Navigation Pane. Currently, the Display Pane reflects the Tree View menu hierarchy using sets of VL menu icons. While these icons can be used to invoke other menus and launch VL functionality, they do not provide the same range of navigation that is available in the Navigation Pane.

Resizing the Pane Width

If required, you can adjust the size of either side by selecting and moving the grab handle in the center line between the Navigation Pane and Display Pane. This comes in handy when you need to see text or images that might be cropped out of view. In fact, the Navigation Pane can be completely removed by dragging the center line all the way to the left. Reinstate the Navigation Pane by selecting the grab handle and dragging it back into view.

Accessing Systems

Systems are the highest level of menu items available on the Menu Page; i.e., WMS, TMS, FMS, etc. Clicking on a system menu item (Navigation pane) or icon (Display pane) will provide access to the selected Sub-System menu.

Accessing Sub-Systems

Each menu item at the Systems level expands to display all of the sub-systems that may be accessed under the selected system (WMS, TMS, FMS, etc). Each sub-system item (Navigation pane) or icon (Display pane) will invoke a menu of related Jobs.

Accessing Jobs

 Jobs are listed in groups on Job Menu page, which is invoked by selecting a Sub-System in VL:
Note that you can access jobs directly via the Job Code field. Jobs can also be included as menu items in a MyFavorites workflow. When you select a job in VL, it will open in an external panel. After you are finished performing your work, click to close the job panel.

Accessing HighViews and Action Grids

HighViews are organized according to the source of the data and the applications associated with them. They may be accessed from various places in the VL Workspace. Also, "single-purpose" HighViews (associated with a specific action grid) may be invoked directly via OneClicks and listed as menu items in MyFavorites.

The HighViews system menu provides a list all of the HighViews that are available to you based on your site/operator profile:

Detailed information on the display and manipulation of data using HighViews and Action Grids is provided under the HighViews topic in this documentation.

Closing a Menu or HighView Page

Any pages that have been opened via the VL Systems Menu page may be closed just like any other tab in your browser. There are two ways to close ViewPoint Logistics pages:

  1. Clicking the X button on the top right corner of the page will close the currently-open menu or HighView.
  2. Clicking the X button inside the browser tab will close the currently-open menu or HighView page.

Logging Out

Your session will remain active until you exit the Systems Menu page. The main difference between closing the Systems Menu and other types of pages is that this will initiate the "Confirmation of Logout" from ViewPoint Logistics.

Clicking the Log-Out button closes the Systems Menu page and returns you to the ViewPoint Logistics Log-In page.

Note: Key enhancements to ViewPoint Logistics have resulted in a new menu format as well as the consolidation, reorganization, and/or renaming of some functionality. For documentation relating to features that existed in versions prior to VL 13.010, see Legacy VL.
